Capturing the Shot
(Released March 17, 2025) Part of our Echoes of the West series, this image isn’t just a glimpse into the past. It’s a tribute to the grit it took to survive it.
Before supermarkets and drive-thrus, feeding your family meant saddling up, braving the elements, and putting yourself in harm’s way. There were no shortcuts. If you wanted meat on the table, you had to earn it with sweat, lead, and calloused hands.
The frontier was a wild and unforgiving place, where danger came in many forms: outlaws, hostile terrain, rival tribes, and the weather itself. Survival wasn’t guaranteed. And yet, men and women carved out a life with nothing but courage, instinct, and will.
This image honors those who walked that path, the hunters, the riders, the settlers who bore the weight of the West on their backs. May it serve as a reminder: the ease we enjoy today was paid for in hardship, and not so long ago.
